Today, I'm fortunate to welcome Dr. Jason Fung for the fifth time. Jason Fung, MD, was born in 1973 and trained in Los Angeles and Toronto as a kidney specialist. He founded The Fasting Method (TheFastingMethod.com) to provide evidence-based advice for weight loss and managing blood sugars, focusing on low carbohydrate diets and intermittent fasting.
In this episode, Dr. Jason Fung emphasizes that fasting should not be followed by binge eating, as it negates the benefits of the fast. The purpose of fasting is to allow the body to use its stored calories, such as glucose and fat, which is beneficial for weight loss and managing type 2 diabetes. If one consumes excessive calories after fasting, the body will store these extra calories as fat, thereby hindering progress.
Tune in as Dr. Fung explains certain foods stimulate GLP-1, a hormone that helps regulate appetite. Protein-rich foods make you feel full quickly, while bitter foods like arugula, dandelion greens, ginger, and spices such as turmeric, fenugreek, and cinnamon can suppress appetite.
