In this episode I talk to the man who has the ability to make gold out of gravel. He has a huge commitment and great passion for sports in general and biathlon in particular. Today's guest in Vintersportpodden is the living legend Wolfgang Pichler.

We talked about his childhood in Ruhpolding and why he became so interested in biathlon and endurance sports. He talks about his family and his own sports career.

Wolfgang gives a clear picture of his coaching career and how he looks back on it. He talks about what he would do differently today if he had it to do one more time. As you probably know, Wolfgang has a clear leadership style and a clear model that he knows works for success. He talks about how he, together with the biathlon association, has built a good and sustainable organization for the future.

Of course, we are talking about his training philosophy, which he is the only one with and which is rooted in Swedish biathlon. I asked the question if he discussed the training plan with the athletes, he had a good explanation and reasoning about that. He talks about the collaboration with Nils van der Poel and their journey together towards the 2022 Olympics.

Wolfgang talks about the future of Swedish sports and what we need to be competitive as a nation in the future.

An interesting topic for me is how talents should take the step from talent to established world star. Wolfgang could answer that question clearly and without complicating it. He also talk about earley specialization and work out many different sports as young.

We talk about this and much more. This episode was incredibly fun, educational and for me exciting as it was the first episode in English.

You can probably guess what Wolfgang answered the last question, "one success factor for being successful in sports?

Many thanks Wolfgang for sharing your experiences and your great knowledge with me and all the listeners of Vintersportpodden
