Lessons learned from hitting a sub 2hr 30min pb on your 20th marathon, Tom Mackay joined by Ravi Rudner
Manage episode 380003755 series 2853217
We've asked Tom Mackay to come back and record his 3rd episode on the chiro.london pod with host Craig Mclean. He's just back from running a sub 2h:30min marathon in Berlin and at 2:26 it was a pb by 8 minutes. It took him 20 marathons and a load of life lessons along the way to find a way to conquer his nemesis time. This episode was recorded in London but we were joined by fellow chiropractor Ravi Ruder who dialled in from Sydney Australia. (Tom was training in Sydney in the lead up to the marathon)
How was this achieved? Tom outlines how he tamed his nervous system feedback during training and racing. Not the direction I anticipated the conversation to go but really interesting to see how he tackled the daunting task. He outlines his 16 week lead up to the race and how he hit all the sessions on point set by his coach.
He discusses how he uses a chiropractor for injury prevention and as a sounding board to have the confidence to push through some mega hard training sessions. Big shout out to Doc Bryan Thirsk in Putney Chiropractic Tom's usual chiro while in London.
What an episode, especially if you are into running be it as a beginner or a marathon runner. But even if you are not into running, this is a story of perseverance and commitment setting out a plan to achieve a goal when others would have given up and started their golf careers.
We cover the shoe wars and Tom has an opinion about how much difference shoe technology makes to running times at present.
