In this episode, we sit down with returning guest Carrin Gilmore and look at the world through her eyes, an adult living with Autism.

Carrin is a RSP in Oakland Unified and is a graduate from University of The Pacific (with her ma in education with a specialization in special education). She is also on the Board of Directors at Autism Career Pathways, an organization led by autistics, that equips the world to hire neurodivergents.

In addition to Carrin sharing her journey thus far, we discuss:

-“Masking” within the Autism community

-Empowering young children to talk about their diagnosis

-Knowing that it is ok to share your diagnosis and how to do it with a positive twist

-Job interview do’s and dont’s

-Carrin’s advice to Autistics going into college

-How a company can become more inclusive in their hiring and how neurodiversity can bring massive value to them

-Carrin’s advice to neurodivergent adults who just don’t feel like they belong in the workplace

-How Covid has affected the Autism employment gap

-We answer the question can an adult with ASD be employed, socially included, and happy? & more…

In both Canada and the USA, over 85% of Adults with Autism are unemployed. Only 1% of Autistic adults in the USA have a career. To learn more about how you can make your company a neuro friendly space, or if you are a neurodiverse individual looking for support in the workplace please contact Autism Career Pathways at http://autismcareerpathways.org or https://www.instagram.com/autismcareerpathways
