Manage episode 373792796 series 3475812
Have you felt Overwhelmed at least once in the last 3 weeks? Or are you feeling overwhelmed on a weekly basis? Do you feel like there’s never enough time to get everything done?
In this episode, Wendy breaks down what Overwhelm is, where it comes from, and why it affects women of color in our communities so much. Overwhelm is like a wave, leaving us feeling stuck and unable to move forward.
She discusses how we try different coping mechanisms to escape feeling overwhelmed – whether it's through distractions like watching TV, shopping, exercising, shutting down entirely, etc.
Wendy breaks down how overwhelm can show up in different forms – some feel it in their body, while others have a mental struggle. She suggests rating overwhelm on a scale from 1-10 can help us build awareness in the brain.
She guides us in navigating through Overwhelm by becoming aware on why we feel it to begin with:
1. Dealing with heavy pressure and responsibilities, especially as First Gen Latinas where we feel responsible for "making it.”
2. Older sister syndrome where you have been burdened in the past with taking care of everything at a young age.
3. The pandemic and how it has changed our concept of time.
Wendy also shares a POWERFUL tool to help us shift out of feeling overwhelmed:
- Letting go of UNREALISTIC expectations you’ve placed on yourself, the pressure to achieve more.
She then presents a simple actionable step – that will help you to surrender the unrealistic expectations.
