The Thirteenth Hour Podcast #464: Making a Thirteenth Hour Infinity / Mobius Strip Resin Pendant
https://archive.org/download/podcast-464/Podcast%20464.mp3
This week’s podcast episode was an exercise in using clear resin to make a Thirteenth Hour pendant with an embedded infinity sign (a symbol that features prominently in The Thirteenth Hour). I’m using a clear two part epoxy resin made by Rockstar Resins and inserting in a paper Möbius strip (meant to depict an infinity sign) that I have colored – blue on one side, magenta on the other with a fade on either end so the colors run into each other:
Here are two of them. It took me a few tries to get a version I could use in the pendant.
Here it is, sitting in the silicone mold, ready for the resin.
Waiting for the resin to cure. I didn’t do this, but I think when I do this again, I will use a hairdryer or something else to get the bubbles out. I think some people use alcohol on the inevitable bubbles that rise to the surface.
It took about a day for the resin to cure fully. Here it what it looks like the next day next to resin Logan and Aurora.
While waiting for the resin to cure, I talked a bit about the 2024 film, Damsel, which I thought was a great fairy tale fantasy film (despite the tagline – it has most of the tropes). You can watch it on Netflix. It’s a bit like a combination of Dragonslayer + adventure parts of The Princess Bride (it even has Robin Wright – Buttercup in The Princess Bride – this time as the villain).
Lastly, I was recently on fantasy author Melinda Kuscera‘s show again, this time to discuss toymaking. In, while we were recording, I got the idea for this episode. Click below to listen/watch the episode on Youtube. Thanks for having me back on your show, Melinda!

Travelling inevitably can be stressful (hopefully in a good way), but one that also brings to mind a concept described by Joseph Campbell, the hero’s journey (or heroine’s journey) – involving a usually reluctant protagonist who is called or forced into action and has to grow from their current (usually unassuming state) to become the hero that is needed. After a series of trials, they, if successful, achieve their goal and return back home changed by the experience. A lot of the films that inspired The Thirteenth Hour had this general structure – The Rocketeer, The Last Starfighter (reluctant heroes), The Neverending Story (unassuming hero – a child – goes on a desperate quest), Labyrinth (teenage girl goes on a quest to save her brother) – so it’s no wonder Logan’s journey in the story follows a similar structure.
