Welcome to Episode 4 of Load Save Game, a podcast where we share our personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Quincy Surasmith. In the episode we talk about a ton of great games, 4X games like Civilization, the varying levels of freedom and player agency in JRPGs vs. Western RPGs vs. Tabletop RPGs. Quincy talks about taking one of the early video game design classes as UC Santa Cruz, wanting to create his ideal game which is like an MMORPG society-builder game where players could organically create quests and effect the game world.

Quincy works in audio production and podcasting. He is also an actor and voice actor. Check out the links in the show notes for his Asian American culture and history podcast, Asian Americana, his socials, and other projects!

Corrections: A Nintendo NES was $150 in 1985 and according to Google would be equivalent in purchasing power to about $417.06 today. Probably not enough to purchase a gaming PC in most cases. At the time of this writing a Nintendo Switch OLED is listed at $319.99 at Gamestop. 4x stands for Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate according to Wikipedia. The free team-based FPS game that Quincy was referring to was probably Apex legends. I mention XCOM: Enemy Within (which was DLC), I meant to say XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but both were very fun. The game Quincy refers to as Lighthouse Keeper appears to be titled A Fisherman’s Tale. Lighthouse Keeper is a different game.

Games Discussed: Oregon Trail, Conan the Barbarian, Load Runner, Pac-Man, Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, Final Fantasy VII/VI, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing, Civilization I, SimCity, Starcraft, Diablo, Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Atlantis, Quake, Master of Orion, Secret of Mana I/III, Fallout I/II, Baldur’s Gate, Planescape: Torment, Uncharted, Adventure, Vampire: The Masquerade, D&D, Goldeneye, Star Fox 64, Metal Gear Solid I/II, WWE (PS2), Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA: I/II/San Andreas, Warcraft III, Soldat, Counter-Strike, Dota, League of Legends, Tetris, Super Mario Bros., Guitar Hero, Katamari Damacy, Soul Calibur III, Minecraft, Diplomacy, Eve Online, Star Wars: X-Wing, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Elite, Beginner’s Guide, Stanley Parable, Hades, Spelunky, FTL: Faster Than Light, Raft, The Long Dark, Mega Man X, 20XX, Ori - The Will of the Wisps, Batman: Arkham City, Star Wars: Squadrons, A Fisherman’s Tale, Return of the Obra Dinn, Outer Wilds, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,, Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Star Trek: Judgment Rites, Mini Metro, Mini Motorways, Star Trek Adventures: Klingon, Star Wars: Age of Rebellion
