Ps 51:15-17(NIV)
Open my lips, Lord and my mouth will declare your praise, You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise.
TPT(The Passion Translation)
Lord God, unlock my heart, unlock my lips and I will overcome with my joyous praise!
For the source of your pleasure is not in my performance or the sacrifices I might offer to you.
The fountain of your pleasure is found in the sacrifice of my shattered heart before you.
You will not despise my tenderness as I humbly bow down at your feet.
As we learn to have closeness and intimacy with God, this is a great example of how to get there. David is declaring the goodness of God and bringing a heart of surrender to God as a sacrifice of praise!
We don't need to perform or be perfect. We just need to come humbly before Him and lay our lives down in surrender!
God is good and will be faithful to help us walk out this life when we do this!
