Join Paige on this week’s episode of Embracing Your Season, where she gives tips on avoiding the summer break meltdowns and those phone calls every few minutes from your kids. Paige shares her own experiences of summertime growing up with her brother, living out in the country, and only having each other to argue and play with. Summertime can be amazing, but it can also bring lots of stress for us as parents. Listen today and feel encouraged and equipped for summer success!

Takeaways:

  1. Avoiding meltdowns by having a “bored list” easily accessible with chores and activities they can do during the summer while you are working. Use the “asked and answered” rule. This can make it easier to remind them that they have asked and you have answered them and given them options on the list. This will prompt them to go to that list or to problem-solve for themselves.
  2. Come up with themes for each day of the week or for the week. You can take this opportunity to learn about other cultures and plan meals around the culture your theme is about.
  3. No WiFi until the chores are done. A tip is to have them send you pictures of their completed tasks.
  4. Spend time outside riding bikes, weather activities, fire pit and s'mores, parks & rec schedule, and plan other fun family activities. Be active!
  5. Stock the pantry and fridge with food and snacks. Meal plan and have the kids help you with the meal plan for the week as well.
  6. Find other families who you can trade off days with to spend time with your kids and vice versa.
