Gladys Matar grew up in an environment ideally suited for nurturing the growth ofher artistic and literary talents fron an early age. In Latakia, the city with the distinction of being the most important port of Syria, Ms. Matar attended Les Carmelites Catholic school from kindergarten through middle school, and then moved to the public school system following legislative changes that prohibited private religious schools. Later, she attended the foreign literature program at the University of Latakia, graduating in 1984 with a degree in French Literature. Ms. Matar has published ten books to date, with several more currently under production for future publication. She is a playwright and screenwriter, and regularly publishes articles on literary critique and world politics in a multitude of Arabic periodicals and reputable literary websites. She has been awarded and celebrated by many nationally and internationally distinguished cultural associations and organizations. Her time is dedicated to research, writing, translating and delivering lectures on current world affairs. She also produces works for others and is perhaps one of the few ghostwriters in the Arab World. www.gladysmatar.net
