DeBaun, MD, MPH, discuss best practices for the management of painful vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs) in patients with sickle cell disease, review the disease pathophysiology, and provide emergency department and outpatient setting recommendations on nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic management of painful VOCs.
