In this episode, I had the honor of speaking with Bill Cohen. Mr. Cohen is a caregiver support group leader and speaker, an Alzheimer's Association volunteer, a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)®, and the owner of Cohen Caregiving Support Consultants. His loving and talented mother, Sheila, lost her home to Hurricane Katrina. Then, she lost her health, ability to create beautiful art and, ultimately, her life due to Alzheimer's. For almost 10 years, Bill was her primary caregiver and advocate, not just her elder son. Bill shares his story and journey with his late mom, answers specific questions and concerns, and provides advice on how to manage care and behaviors, and how to practice self-care and prevention. Bill has completed multiple caregiving and aging courses through the Alzheimer's Association and the Society for Certified Senior Advisors™️, has a financial services and government background, and earned business degrees from Boston and Portland State Universities. In this episode, I had the honor of speaking with Dr. Nathaniel Chin about Aducanumab/Aduhelm the new FDA approved Alzheimer's drug. Dr. Chin is an assistant professor in the division of geriatrics and gerontology. Dr. Chin received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He then went to the University of California-San Diego for his internal medicine residency. After completing his residency he spent the next two years working as a Hospitalist for Kaiser Permanente before returning to WI in 2015 to help his mother provide care for his father who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He completed his geriatric fellowship in 2016 and spent another year in a dementia research fellowship within geriatrics. He was then hired as an assistant professor. Dr. Chin sees patients in the UW Health Memory Clinic and in addition to providing diagnoses he focuses on palliative care in chronic disease management. In addition to his clinical and research work, he is the medical director of the WI Alzheimer’s Disease Research Study and the Wisconsin Registry for Alzheimer’s Prevention Study, the Co-Leader of the ADRC Clinical Core, as well as the Associate Director of the Geriatric Memory Clinics at UW-Health. He also serves on the board of the WI Alzheimer’s Association and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. Dr. Chin is a Co-Investigator on 5 NIH grants, with one of them focused biomarker disclosure. He presents frequently on the topics of AD and geriatrics and in the past 3 years has given over 55 presentations at local, regional and national conferences. He has created over 100 podcasts on AD research and caregiving topics under his podcast called Dementia Matters. Please tune in for a great learning session on this new drug and more.…

In this episode, I had the honor and pleasure of speaking with Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Anne Marie Reece. Brian W. Reece, Sr spent 4 years serving our country in the United States Marine Corp in machine maintenance and repair. At the age of 56, Brian was given the diagnosis of younger onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Brian and his wife Anne, a special education teacher, merged their two families together almost 30 years ago with 4 grown sons and now 14 grandchildren! Anne retired after 27 years of teaching as a special education teacher, and now uses her teaching skills to help Brian to learn new things and to help Brian with strategies for his short term memory. Together, Anne and Brian are a formidable team, helping Brian to prepare for the challenges that Alzheimer’s Disease brings.
