A witness has told the Western Cape High Court in Saldanha Bay that she overhead Joshlin Smith's mother, Kelly, telling her boyfriend that someone wanted the 7-year-old. Lorentia Lombard has taken the stand at the Saldanha Bay multi-purpose centre, where she has testified that moments after the conversation between the couple, she saw Smith leaving the house with Joshlin to meet up with a woman in a white car. Social media influencer, Shakirah Ganief, says Joshlin's mother, Kelly Smith had on two occasions expressed that she never knew she would be famous through her daughter. Ganief has been testifying in the kidnapping trial of seven year old Joshlin Smith which is currently ongoing in Saldanah on the West Coast. Joshlin went missing on the 19th of February last year and has still not been found. The Barkly West Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape has set aside three days for the culpable homicide case against the partner of the late Judge Yvonne Mokgoro, who died last year. The National Student Financial Aid Scheme says it has finalised its 2025 student allowance caps and confirmed a second upfront payment to universities. NSFAS says as the tertiary education academic year continues, it has released this information to all institutions in order to ensure that students receive their March allowances on time. Despite this, activists say issues persist, particularly for TVET college students, as payments are dependent on processes that often delays financial aid. Concerns around maladministration and financial mismanagement at the agency are rife, particularly with regards to over R17 billion allocated for student accommodation. The Director of Operations at the Electoral Commission of Namibia, Zenia Klazen has highlighted the importance of coupling electronic voting systems with voter and civic education. Klazen was speaking at the conclusion of the E-Voting Conference in Cape Town. The conference seeks to initiate a public conversation about the possibility of introducing e-voting in South Africa. Klazen says the introduction of electronic voter machines (EVMs) in Namibia, has enhanced the polling process, accurate results and has decreased human error. Yet another Ekurhuleni bus crash today. A bus carrying school children this morning collided with a truck on Blackreef Road and Dekema Road near Wadeville, Germiston, in Ekurhuleni. The pupils were being transported from Ramaphosa Informal Settlement to Segutlong Primary School when the accident happened.
