Episode 175: Speaking Tips for Introverts
Manage episode 391705626 series 2880729
Who makes a better public speaker – an introvert, extrovert or ambivert? Most would likely think that the answer is the extrovert. The extrovert by nature is more comfortable with crowds and doesn’t hesitate to take the microphone. Introverts on the other hand prefer alone time and introspection. When considering defining these, consider the concept of energy and how you get energized. Extroverts are energized being around people, whereas introverts are energized by being alone or in small groups.
From our experience in working with and supporting leaders from all backgrounds and levels of responsibility, we have found those who are ‘introverted’ to be some of the best communicators. Here are some of our speaking tips for introverts:
Know your strengths, be authentic and comfortable with yourself.
Like a performance.
Preparation and practice.
Look for opportunities to speak.
Power of the Pause.
Breathing, visualization techniques.
