Fulfilling a listener request and covering a label whose influence shaped Hardcore and Punk through the duration of our involvement with the subculture - and beyond. Featuring a few choice musical selections, with a Pt. 2 to follow - Pt. 2 to double as "Intro to Mysterious Guy HC" episode as well. Sound off in the comments. Sorry the episode's late, I had da flu and fell asleep Website: KingsOfPunk.com IG: @koppodofficial…
*NOTE FROM JAKE RAZOR: I thought this got posted here last week. Patreon is supposed to post it here too when I mark an episode as "public". But I guess it didn't so here it is. If anyone know how to do this better and/or knows how to open PDF, plz advise* A relaxed recap regarding rousing renditions ... eh nah I'm not doing an allitteration thing, you don't care that much. But this is a "chill" episode for sure. But we talk about some actual topics: John Joseph's slanderous nonsense regarding RAYBEEZ The SIX FEET UNDER gig Gary and Tyler saw (and the opening bands) Plus some other things. We hope you enjoy - apologies for posting this over 12 hours later than we typically aim for. Website: KingsOfPunk.com IG: @koppodofficial…

The KOPPOD Troika starts the show with extended-length musings regarding the death of David Lynch and other hot topics, then move on to their review of LA Punk Rock classic 'Back from Samoa' by the ANGRY SAMOANS. Includes examination of the ANGRY SAMOANS' METAL MIKE SAUNDERS and GREGG TURNER's rock critic priors, a listen to their prior band VOM (featuring RICHARD MELTZER on vocals) assessment of their sound in relation to their contemporaries, and recaps of inter-band comment-section feuds on defunct websites. A long time ago, the KINGS did an episode focusing on the year 1979 from a subculture point-of-view; important albums, trends in underground music, plus some signature KOPPOD japes and musings. In THIS episode, the KOPPOD TROIKA does the same thing but for 1984! Well, more or less the same thing. Featuring some historical context, some editorials from Maximum Rock 'n' Roll, some personal favorites, and the introduction of BLOGSPOT HC as a good genre. KOPPOD analyzes the evolution and fragmentation of punk and hardcore in the Year 1984, and speculate about parallels one might find today. IG: @koppodofficial KingsofPunk.com…

Rudimentary Peni charted a lonesome path through corners of the human psyche seldom explored on punk rock records. Their singularmystique and style makes them a no-brainer 'Legacy of...' candidate - and it arrives hot on the heels of our 'Intro to... Outsider Music' episode. This episode surveys the first phase of Rudimentary Peni's tenure, from their debut EP through 1988's 'Cacophony' LP. Part 2 for Patreon subscribers arrives within a couple weeks. NOTE: We did this one a while ago so we didn't shout out our top-tier Patrons so I am doing it here: extra big thanks to G. and NoiseOfVarrich, very big thanks to everyone else who signed up over there too In this episode, we take a detour from punk and hardcore while continuing to steer clear of all conventions: welcome to Outsider Music . Guided by our own tastes (and Irwin Chusid’s insights), we dive into this magical world, featuring gems from The Shaggs, Daniel Johnston, BJ Snowden, and Y. Bhekhirst (and a little taste of Wesley Willis and Joe Meek, bookending the episode). Before we get to the wonder of this music, we indulge in some prime nonsense: debating Hardcore vs. Metal scene dynamics, why people can’t handle honest reviews, and—because it’s tradition and it's right up the street (BOOP street, where I live)—our thoughts on this season’s McRib. But eventually we get to Outsider Music. And eventually you get to the end of the episode. And at that point you will have completed a crash course in why Outsider Music warrants your attention— like another sort of crash, one involving cars. Even if this stuff proves a departure from your usual listening, we bet you can't look away. And if you've never heard "Hot In the Airport" before, listen to this episode and hear it today. Then hear it in your head, on a periodic basis, forever. This is a free episode, but there's more where this came from over on our Patreon. Hold onto your popular knapsack, because the latest episode of KINGS OF PUNK PODCAST has arrived in many different listening locations! Tubi-coded documentary "Nightclubbing: The Birth of Punk Rock in NYC" compiles lots of reminiscence about NYC’s underground rock grit, but did it do anything for THE KINGS? Our hosts dissect the documentary (suggested to us by a beloved listener [they’re all beloved, by all of us]), assessing its approach and sharing our own thoughts regarding its subject matter. But that's not all— we recorded this in the wake of the recent U.S. Presidential election, so you get to hear some off-topic and on-brand KOPPOD musings regarding its result. How can a band create a "cookie-cutter" album when the cookies came out of the oven not long ago? In this episode of the Kings Upon Podcast, we explore FEAR's "lunk-coded" classic 'The Record'. What eccentricities and complexities did FEAR lodge between slices of beef baloney? And what ambiguities did they slather across the whole platter? Check out this episode to dine on our takes.
