The History of Radio Station Call Letters "K" and "W"
Manage episode 273995304 series 2802986
In this episode I talk about the history of radio station call letters and the lettering system established very early in the 19th century during the dawn of broadcasting.
The United States was given the letters W, K, N, and A. The letters 'N' and 'A' were given to military stations, but 'K' and 'W' were assigned out for commercial use. Radio stations east of the Mississippi River had to start their stations with 'W', and stations west of the Mississippi with 'K'.
