They then head to constable John Rance's home and on the way, Holmes explains to Watson how he figured out so many details of the case. When they arrive Rance tells them all that happened while he was on duty during the murder. He is shocked at all Holmes can say about the evening, and even accuses Holmes of having been there while the attack occurred.
