In today's edition of the COIL we're taking an inside look at the world of music, discussing how it's evolved with the advent of the digital commerce and technology, and how it's shaping the world of business and culture. Our guest is Tom Maxwell - author, polticial activist and former front man of the legendary group the Squirrel Nut Zippers. About our guest: Tom Maxwell is a communicator. He was a member of the Squirrel Nut Zippers between 1994 and 1999, and his song “Hell” peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, propelling the band to multi-platinum status. Songs Tom wrote have appeared in dozens of movies and television shows, including Sesame Street, Sex in the City, Dancing With The Stars, Sleeps with Fishes, Three to Tango, Firefly, and Dead Like Me, as well as a Super Bowl commercial, an Academy Award-nominated documentary and the Tony Award-winning soundtrack for Contact. He has also scored for movies, television and commercials. His writing has appeared in The Oxford American, Al Jazeera America, Our State Magazine, College Music Journal, Southern Cultures and The Independent. In early 2014 Tom will release his new solo album and a memoir.
