She might only be sixteen, but Madison Cain is no rookie at the music game. As the oldest daughter of Journey keyboard player & famed songwriter, Jonathan Cain, she grew up backstage listening to some of the most influential musicians of our time as well as any artist that played on either of the two country stations she could pick up in scenic Northern California. Originally from Novato, California, Madison grew up with what she thought was a normal lifestyle: summers living the gypsy life on the road with her Dadâ??s band, having kids come up to her at her brotherâ??s baseball games asking what it was like to live with a rock star and seeing her Dadâ??s songs memorialized on one of her favorite TV shows, Glee. She thought everyone's bedrooms used to be studios with people like Huey Lewis, Michael Bolton, John Waite and Steve Perry recording songs there. By the time she was 13, she started to realize that the musical magic that had taken place in her father's recording studio (now her bedroom) must have seeped through the sheetrock and into her veins. Madison had been bitten by the music bug and knew she was ready to embark on something bigger than her self. She soon went into the studio and tracked five songs, quickly feeling a connection to the soothing melodies and lyrics of classic country music. After sheâ??d proven to her father that this was more than a fleeting hobby, he called Kim Tribble, a heavy hitting songwriter who invited them to Nashville and agreed to sit down with Madison and began showing her the musical process. Madison spent a week in the Country music capitol watching and learning as Kim and her father worked with her and taught her how to write music and biography explained the technical aspects of putting a life story into a three-minute song. By this point, she had fallen in love with the way a musicianâ??s mind worked and felt confident that Nashville was where she wanted to call home. The Cains moved to Nashville in 2009 to embark on a new life immersed in an efficacious music scene and to allow Madison to continue chasing her dream as a thick-skinned teen ready to leave a mark on Country music. With influences like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Dolly Partonâ??s â??Joleneâ?? as her favorite tune, Madison has found her place in the music world, writing her own songs filled with heart and soul. Since returning to Music City, Madison has dedicated herself 100% to her craft. From graduating high school early to working with a vocal teacher via Skype between doing chores, Madison feels that everything is falling perfectly into place. She is a free spirit and a traditional teen who likes jamming out to the radio with her sister and brother but she also has an old soul and a love for all things vintage. She enjoys collecting vintage clothes, riding horses, scouring flea markets, antiques and the original Janis Joplin show invites in her room are pretty cool, too. This vintage side of her is what has shaped who she is as an artist. "I like Country music because it is an expression of me and because the messages conveyed in songs are meaningful and genuine stories,â?? she said. â??I love the vintage feel that Country music elicits. It has clean and biography pure lyrics with gritty music that transcends current trends.â?? She might be the daughter of one of the greatest musicians ever known, but Madison has paved her way through the music world with hard work, talent and the intuition to always dream bigger.
