Van life is so sweet.

For weeks I have been following whatever whim happens to strike me, zigzagging up and down the coast of California in the pursuit of adventure, new friends, and quality time with the folks I hold near and dear to my heart. I’ve had the unique advantage of time – total unadulterated, unobligated, unplanned time, to decide what the hell to do with my life.

post ride

When you have no obligations, what exactly does drive you to get up in the morning, gulp down that savory cup of joe, and head out into the great big world?

Over the past few weeks this answer has become crystal clear – bikes. I’ve packed up and driven hours out of my way to seek out a trailhead, I’ve stayed a week longer in an area just to catch a rad group of riders on a weekend get-together, I’ve eagerly geared up to ride in an effort to release the emotional turmoil of losing a loved one, and I’ve simmered in the bliss of hours upon hours of riding.

It is safe to say I do not have an addictive personality, and yet I can’t shake this obsession with bicycles. When I set out to start another blog, it was a pretty low-key and self-explanatory endeavor. Travel in a van. Write about it… But as this week’s Roam Rydes podcast indicates, things are a-changin’!

No longer is Roam Rydes a catchy title for a plog (podcast+blog) – we (yes we) are very excited to announce a new chapter in the significantly short life of Roam Rydes. From here on out, Roam Rydes will be a community, a tribe, and an organization dedicated to the advocacy and promotion of women who ride. This will be brought to you by yours truly, and an equally bike-obsessed East Coaster and friend Kelly McCrea.

I know some of you might be wondering, “what about the van life?” and rest assured, I will continue to keep ya’ll updated throughout future plogs on how Rowdy is doing, but now you get the added benefit of learning all about women’s bike culture! Yay bikes!
