This might be one of the most impactful episodes I’ve ever recorded. In 2022, I received a coaching application from Dr. Jamie Felton that stopped me in my tracks. As an endocrinologist with T1D, she felt a unique pressure to have her diabetes figured out, but the truth is, she was really struggling both physically and mentally. If you’ve ever felt hopeless in your T1D journey or you work with patients, this beautifully honest conversation is for you.

Time Stamps:

  • (05:00) Why she agreed to come on the show
  • (07:07) Reclaiming her rise with an acai bowl
  • (09:54) Growing up with T1D
  • (11:38) When she knew she wanted to be a doctor
  • (13:15) The unique pressure of being an endocrinologist with T1D
  • (17:30) Her lowest point & feeling hopeless
  • (19:45) The detrimental mindset of not making space for your diabetes
  • (23:31) Why she had a pessimistic mindset around diabetes & how it started to shift with exercise
  • (30:13) Why “don’t be hard on yourself” wasn’t the message she needed to hear, battling complacency and struggling to find the right next steps
  • (36:00) Approaching from curiosity vs. criticism
  • (39:44) The Risely difference & mental health as a priority
  • (43:51) How she approaches her endocrinologist visits now
  • (45:17) Translating her new, personal approach to her patients
  • (47:25) Lauren expresses her pride & gratitude
