Intro:
What can trauma teach us about life?
The Interview took place on a beautiful sunny afternoon in ‘the village’, a community center located in the Southeast side of San Francisco. Sasanna invited me over for a special yoga class called “Chair Yoga” where participants did the Yoga sitting on their chair, some were normal chairs, some were wheelchairs. It was a group of 7 elderlies, from different ethnic groups, mainly lower working class immigrants who lived in this part of the town. I sat there, witnessing, with full respect, as Sasanna patiently and professionally guided the group. When the class was over, I pulled out my microphone and recorder, we sat in that same room and grounded ourselves, slowly began the conversation, a conversation where there was burps, tears, long pauses and meditations. A conversation on pain, trauma, rebellion, and the journey of rebirth.
