NTW 21 – Blow Up Your “Can’ts” with Dixie “Dynamite” Gillaspie
Manage episode 155470513 series 1157560
Dixie “Dynamite: Gillaspie lives up to her nickname in this episode as she helps us to blast through the brick walls of “I can’t.”
Here’s a little bit of her biography:
Dixie has been a coach, business consultant and analyst, a change agent, and a general trouble-shooter to entrepreneurs and business leaders for more years than she is willing to admit.)
She is the author of Just Blow it Up – Firepower for Living an Unlimited Life and a companion book, Doses of Dynamite – Firepower for Capturing the Inspiration in Everyday Things.
Her success stories have been featured in books such as Go-Givers Sell More, by Bob Burg and John David Mann and The Referral Engine, by John Jantsch of Duct Tape Marketing, and she is also a contributing author, along with Dr. Bernie Seigal, Dr. Joe Dispenza, and others, to The Thought That Changed My Life Forever, available in bookstores now.
She’s shared the stage with the likes of Zig Zigler, Bob Burg, John David Mann, Scott Ginsberg, Mark Sanborn, and Southwest Airlines President Emerita, Coleen Barrett.
She’s allergic to the word “CAN’T” and her Blast Thru Coaching(TM) method is a process for challenging, and even eliminating that word from your vocabulary.
Take Away Points
You’ll be challenged in this episode by her message of conquering the 4 main types of brick walls that she has encountered when coaching clients to over come their obstacles. Specifically:
The Brick Wall of Style – Just because you feel like you “can’t” do it like you’ve been taught or like someone else (because it’s not just you) doesn’t mean you can’t do something. Embrace your style and your abilities and sensibilities.
The Brick Wall of Circumstances -If you think you are not “something enough”, that is probably not a big enough issue as you think it is. So if you aren’t old enough, tall enough, skinny enough, young enough, pretty enough, whatever, that is not an excuse. As Dixie tells us, circumstances change or are unimportant anyway.
The Brick Wall of Consequences – Sometimes we avoid doing things because of the perceived consequences. Everything that “could” happen is not inevitable. Instead, Dixie shares with us that we should assess the risk factors and our risk tolerance. An easy way to determine whether or not you should move forward is to determine the worst-case-scenario and determine whether those consequences are worth it.
The Brick Wall of Design – If your vision doesn’t exactly match the final outcome perfectly it can be stressful. Goals will change along the way or the manner in which you reach is goal may be different than you anticipated but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Dixie shared with us that if find ourselves saying “I can’t” a lot around a particular situation it may be because we don’t want to do something.
The first step in breaking through your brick walls is determining what you want to accomplish. Finish this sentence…
“What I really want to do is….”
Dixie also spent time in the interview telling us about some of her strongest and most profound brick walls that she broke through. Her story is touching and uplifting all at the same time. We all have barriers. No one’s life is perfect, and Dixie shares so much personal stuff, in order to help us. Thank you, Dixie!

Business Tip of the Week
We’re all looking for ways to be more productive aren’t we? Jane Garee posted on Facebook recently about how much more productive she seems to be when she is working in her local coffee shop. And guess what, she’s right! May of us are and now there’s research to prove it plus a free online app to simulate the hustle and bustle of a coffee shop.
Check out Coffitivity (trying saying that 3 times fast) here.
Here’s what I like to do….turn on Coffitivity. Put on some soft jazz on spotify and make myself a latte. Voila! Productivity, peace and perfection….in other words, just the right setting for maximum creativity.
