Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. I had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with Vic from The Slackers on the Flogging Molly Cruise. And I knew right away I had to get him on the podcast.
The Slackers are not only one of the best (and most criminally overlooked) contemporary ska bands, Vic is also an incredible songwriter and musician, not to mention a real old school New York character.
I'm sure he has stories for days. We get into a few of them here, from growing up in the Bronx and the New York music scene to the history of The Slackers and his connection with Rancid and the Transplants, and the importance of politics and a social message in his music.
