Healthy Homes Have Healthy Rhythms. “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. — Deuteronomy 6:4-9 1. The Bible: Our Curriculum. “You shall teach them diligently to your children…” — Deuteronomy 6:7 “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the LORD your God commanded me to teach you…” — Deuteronomy 6:1 “Hear, O Israel The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” — Deuteronomy 6:4 2. The Student: Our Children. “You shall teach them diligently to your children…” — Deuteronomy 6:7 Parents are the primary disciple-makers of their children. “Only take care, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things that your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life. Make them known to your children and your children’s children…” — Deuteronomy 4:9 “You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.” — Deuteronomy 11:19 “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” — Ephesians 6:4 3. The Strategy: Everyone, Everywhere. “You shall teach them diligently to your children…” — Deuteronomy 6:7 “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” — Deuteronomy 6:7-9 The home is the first mission field. “Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him.” — Proverbs 22:15 Essential Rhythms for a Healthy Home 1.
