Welcome to the Cartime Stories podcast, where we dive into compelling short stories. "Homecoming" opens in 1946 South Carolina, as Jalen Reynolds, a Black veteran, returns to his family farm. Reuniting with his brother Elijah, Jalen faces the harsh realities of the Jim Crow South and their farm's dire state. The arrival of Harvey Tanner, a wealthy, prejudiced landowner threatening foreclosure, heightens tensions. As Jalen and Elijah stand united against Tanner's intimidation, the story sets up themes of racial injustice, veterans' struggles, and the fight for dignity in a society that often denies it to them. The first act closes with the brothers preparing for an uphill battle to save their family's heritage.
