Sha'Carri Richardson born on March 25, 2000 is an American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Richardson rose to fame in 2019 as a freshman at Louisiana State University, running 10.75 seconds to break the 100 meter record at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championships.

This winning time made her one of the ten fastest women in history at 19 years of age.

On July 1, it was reported that Richardson had tested positive for THC (the main psychoactive component found in cannabis) following the 100 m final at the U.S. Trials, invalidating her results and making her ineligible to compete in the 100 meter race at the Olympics. After successfully completing a counseling program, she accepted a one-month period of ineligibility that began on June 28, 2021 thus disqualifying her from the 100 meters race. Since the 30-day suspension ends July 27, 2021, she could have been eligible for the Women's 4 × 100 relay scheduled for August 5, 2021. However, she was not selected, thereby missing the Olympics entirely.

KEEPING IT REAL-

the Debate

Is the rule fair, should athletes be tested for marijuana use?

Marijuana is banned in competition — but not out of competition — under the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code.

For a positive test at a competition, if an athlete establishes that it was ingested out of competition and unrelated to sport performance, the ban is three months. In that case, the ban can be reduced further to one month if the athlete completes a substance of abuse treatment program

CO-HOST Bonnecia Williams says the rule is unfair

Sha'Carre has diverse support who believes she is being treated unfairly

NBA player Ricky Williams, Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, National Women's Soccer League Sydney Leroux, Olympic gold medalist Michael Johnson,

HOST Violet Adams say the rule is fair, President Biden, Uncle Jo,e states, “Rules are Rules”.

I know that this country has passed laws to maintain the power hierarchy and caste system as discussed in our last show. But I agree My question is who gave her the weed? Back in the day certain people were left off limits

2nd. If the rule was banned, then where is the limit? Will athletes be allowed to toke on the podium after a win?

3rd. Athletes value their bodies as their temples. They monitor what they eat, what they drink and everything that enters their bodies and minds for that matter. Won’t this change when no limitations are set? Today it’s weed, tomorrow what?

Join us for details about what formed our perspective and what this all means for you.
