In this episode, we bring you a recording of our recent event with Dr. Zhang Zhexin, research fellow at the Center for Asia Pacific Studies at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and visiting fellow at CSIS. The title of his talk is China’s Pursuit of a New Asia Pacific Security Architecture and Implications for US-China Relations. Amid growing tensions over territorial disputes and increasingly confrontational security postures, Chinese leaders have been advocating for a new Asia Pacific security architecture. What exactly is this architecture? Does it symbolise China’s growing ambition for regional hegemony? Or is it ultimately a response to America’s rebalance to Asia? What is China’s vision of such an architecture and how is China going to achieve it? What does this mean for US-China relations?
