TRANSCRIÇÃO: (Receba a tradução via Direct) Shantel: So Todd, you live in Japan. Do you see your family often? Todd: Yes. I see them often. I see them usually once a year, but I write to them often, and I call them sometimes. Shantel: Okay. And when you see them, do you go to the United States to visit them, or do they come to Japan? Todd: I go to America, and then everyone goes to my mom’s house, and everybody meets me at my mom’s house, which is nice. I see my sister, and we talk a lot, and it’s good. Shantel: Does your mother miss you? Todd: Yes. She misses me and I miss her a lot, so it’s very nice to see her, and also, I miss my dad. I miss him a lot, so I’m always happy to see him. Shantel: Nice. What about your sister? When you’re in the United States, do you have some activities you like to do together? Todd: Yeah, sometimes we do stuff together. Maybe I will meet her at a café, or I will go shopping with her, so we do something fun each time I go back. Shantel: Nice. Todd: Also, when I go home, I see my best friend, and that’s always nice. I usually meet him for dinner, and of course I call him, and it’s always nice to see my best friend. How about your family? Shantel: Well, since I live in Japan, I also call them and write them, but usually, we only Skype about once a month. Todd: Oh. So, who do you Skype with the most, your mom or your dad? Shantel: I Skype the most with my father, because he wakes up very early, so his time and his schedule match my schedule, so it is easy for us to Skype. Todd: Do you call him or does he call you? Shantel: I usually call him, but sometimes he calls me. Usually, if he calls me, it’s because I haven’t called in a long time. Todd: Uh-oh. Shantel: Mm-hmm (affirmative). Todd: So sometimes, you make him mad. Shantel: A little angry. Todd: Right. That’s nice. Shantel: But- Todd: You have a brother too, right? Shantel: I do have a brother, and I call him less frequently, because he is so busy with his job, so we speak about once or twice a month, by messages or by phone. Todd: Oh, that’s nice. Do you follow your family on social media? Shantel: Yes. I use Facebook. Todd: Oh, I use it too. Shantel: It is a really easy way to keep in contact with them. Todd: Yeah, I agree. What about other social media? Do you use Twitter? Shantel: No. I don’t use Twitter, and I don’t use other social media either, only Facebook. Todd: Ah, that’s good, I think. Too much is too bad. Shantel: I agree, but I do love Facebook, because I can speak with my brother, and my mother, and my father anytime. Todd: So, with Facebook, do you check it every day? Shantel: I do check it every day. Maybe it’s a bad habit, but I do like to check it every day. Do you check your Facebook every day? Todd: Not every day. I check it maybe three times a week. Shantel: hree times a week? Todd: Yeah, I don’t use it much, and I don’t use it on my phone. Shantel: Oh. That’s a good idea. Todd: Yeah. I like my free time. Shantel: Do you use other social media, such as Twitter or Instagram? Todd: I do use Twitter, but I don’t use it on my phone. I only use it on the computer. Shantel: Okay. What about Instagram? Todd: Oh, I don’t use it at all. Do you use it? Shantel: No, I don’t use it. Todd: Oh, that’s right. You only use Facebook. Shantel: I only use Facebook. Todd: Oh, interesting. Well, that’s nice that we can talk to our family on Skype and Facebook, because Japan is so far from America. Shantel: Yes, and I think they are very happy too. Todd: Yeah, I think they are happy. #inglesdozero #inglesparainiciantes #pronunciaemingles #inglesfacil #aprenderingles #estudaringles #cursodeingles #auladeingles

Sarah: So John, you told me about me about your family’s appearance. What about their personality? John: Well, all five people in my family have different personalities. Yeah. My younger brother is really fun. It’s great to spend time with him. For example, we usually play video games together. He likes to play racing games or sports games, and also, we play card games or just watching TV. He’s so funny. No matter what we’re doing, he tells jokes and I love listening to him tell jokes about whatever we’re doing at the time. And he’s so cheerful and bright. He’s always open to new people and new ideas. So I really like spending time with him. He makes me feel cheerful, too when we talk together. Sarah: That’s great. How about your older brother? John: Well, my older brother, he’s a really good guy. He’s not so entertaining like my younger brother but he’s very smart. He’s really serious. He likes to study and read. For example, he likes reading the Greek philosophers. He likes reading about Plato and Socrates. And he’s always talking about philosophy. I like that stuff, too. I think it’s interesting but he’s not very funny. Sarah: I see. How about your dad? John: My dad. Let’s see, what can I say about my dad’s personality? He’s a hard worker. He’s very devoted to everything he tries. He was raised on a farm so he knows a lot about animals. And now, he has a farm as a hobby. My dad raises horses and chickens. He loves animals and he has so many animals but he doesn’t think of them as farm animals, they’re his pets and he loves them. He spends everyday outside where no matter what the weather, because he has to take care of his family, which is all of his animals. And he’s a really smart guy. Maybe a bit serious at times. His sense of humor is maybe like you can imagine from an old man. Sarah: I see. How about your mother? What’s she like? John: My mother loves to read horror novels. Sarah: Really? John: Yeah, horror books. So she knows a lot of stuff about crime or mysteries or police dramas and lawyers. She loves that stuff. So my mother is very interested in those kind of books and movies and TV shows, too. So she’s kind of like a detective. My mother is very smart and enjoys solving puzzles. Sarah: Wow. It sounds like an interesting family. #inglesdozero #inglesparainiciantes #pronunciaemingles #inglesfacil #aprenderingles #estudaringles #cursodeingles #auladeingles…

And then I think I need to clean my house because I didn’t have time during the week, and it is a bit messy now. And in the evening, I think I’m going to have dinner with my friends. John: Do you always have dinner at a different time, too? Sarah: No. I almost always eat dinner around 6 o’clock. How about you? When do you eat dinner? John: My dinner time varies a lot just like my breakfast. So maybe I eat dinner later than most people. I think I would have dinner at 7:00 PM at the earliest. But sometimes, I will have dinner as late as 9 o’clock at night. Sarah: Really? John: Yeah. I don’t mind it. I really like cooking so, if I’m cooking a short thing, I’ll have dinner earlier. But I don’t mind if it takes two hours to cook something really good, I’ll eat later at night. Sarah: Wow. Can you tell me about your work routine? What time do you usually go to work? John: See, my work schedule is different everyday. That’s why I wake up at a different time everyday. Maybe on – for example, some weeks on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, I start work at 7:00. But on Thursday and Friday, I don’t start work until 11:30. Sarah: Ah. John: How about you? Do you have a different work time sometimes? Sarah: Well, right now, I’m on maternity leave. So I stay home and take care of my new baby. John: Oh, congratulations. Sarah: Thank you. I try to work at home a little bit everyday though. If the kids are sleeping or they’re playing quietly, I try to do some work. Maybe around 2 o’clock, I can usually get some work done because the kids are sleeping. John: Oh, if you don’t start getting some work done until 2 o’clock in the afternoon, you must be very busy every morning. Sarah: Yeah. I usually go to the grocery store. Sometimes I take the kids to the park around 10:00 in the morning. I often do the laundry or wash the dishes, and then as soon as the dishes are washed, it’s time to make lunch. So I’m busy all day. John: I see. So that’s why your lunch time can change so much. Sarah: Yeah. John: Oh, it sounds like a busy day. #inglesdozero #inglesparainiciantes #pronunciaemingles #inglesfacil #aprenderingles #estudaringles #cursodeingles #auladeingles…

Sarah: John, tell me about your day. What time do you wake-up? John: Well, let’s see. Some days I wake up early. Maybe about 6 o’clock. Yeah, sometimes I wake up at 6 o’clock. When I get up early, I like to get ready for the day, take a shower and have breakfast. But other days, I don’t like getting up early. Maybe I’ll sleep in until 10:00 or 11:00. Sarah: Wow. John: Yeah. I like sleeping in late. So sometimes, I wake up at 11:00. On those days, if I know I won’t wake up until 11:00, I’ll take a shower the night before, before I go to bed. How about you, Sarah? When do you usually wake up? Sarah: Well, I like everyday to be the same. So I wake up everyday at 8 o’clock. John: 8:00. Sarah: 8:00. And I always do the same thing. First, I make coffee right away. Then I wake up my kids and we have breakfast together at about 8:30. John: Really? Sarah: Yes. We usually have something easy like bread and yogurt and fruit. John: I like to have coffee every morning whether I wake up at 6:00 or at 10:00. I’m still going to have coffee. But I often skip breakfast. Do you always eat breakfast everyday? Sarah: Yes. If I don’t eat breakfast, I’m so hungry. What about lunch? What time do you have lunch? John: Lunch is the same everyday for me. I always eat lunch at 12:30 PM. So whenever I wake up, I do some things and then I always have lunch at 12:30 PM, just half past noon. And I always have a simple lunch. Maybe some soup or spaghetti or a sandwich. Something light, and it’s always at half past noon. What time do you eat lunch? Sarah: That’s interesting. I have breakfast at the same time everyday but lunch is always at a different time. John: Really? Sarah: Because I’m busy in the morning. I go out, maybe I go shopping. Sometimes, I clean the house. So I might have lunch at 11 o’clock or 12 o’clock. Sometimes as late as 2:30. John: Oh, that’s getting late. Sarah: Yes. But it’s always easy lunch like you. Maybe crackers and cheese or a sandwich or a baked potato. I don’t get up at 7:30, but I get up at 8:00. Natalie: Oh, well, sometimes I get up at 8:00. Maybe at the weekend. Todd: Yeah. Actually, I always wake up at 6:00. I start at 12:00, so noon. I start my day late. I finish working at 8:00 or 9:00 at night. Natalie: I wish I started work at 12:00, but I don’t think I’d enjoy working so late. Todd: Oh, it’s great. I love it, because there’s no traffic at noon when I go to work and there’s less traffic at night when I come home. I finish at 9:00 and the train is not crowded and it’s really nice. Todd: So Natalie, what is a typical day for you? For example, what is a typical morning? Natalie: Well, I wake up at about 7.00 a.m. Todd: Oh that’s early. Natalie: Yes, I really am a morning person. Todd: I think you are a morning person. I’m not a morning person at all. Natalie: Well, I don’t actually get out of bed until about 7.30. Todd: Okay, so what do you do? Natalie: Well, I play on my phone, I check my emails, I check Facebook, and I read the news. Todd: Do you eat breakfast at home? Natalie: I usually prepare breakfast at home, yeah. Todd: What do you eat? Natalie: Oh, just the simple stuff, eggs, bacon, sausages, sometimes I’ll have toast. Todd: Do you drink coffee or tea? Natalie: No, I don’t like coffee or tea. Todd: Oh, what do you drink? Natalie: Actually, I like hot chocolate in the morning. Todd: Yeah, I like hot chocolate too. So what about your day? Natalie: Well, I’m a teacher. I teach at a school. Lessons start at about 9.00 a.m. and we have lunch at noon. Todd: How many classes do you have in the morning? Natalie: Each class lasts an hour, so I have three classes. Todd: Do you eat lunch at school? Natalie: Yes, we have a huge canteen. Todd: Is the food good? Natalie: The food is great and it’s so much fun eating with the students too. Todd: Is the food cheap or expensive? Natalie: It’s pretty cheap. I’d say maybe $3 for lunch. Todd: Oh that’s really good. Natalie: Yeah, and for that you get a lot of food. Todd: What do you do in the afternoon? Natalie: In the afternoon I have more lessons, usually taking me till about 4.00 p.m. Todd: Oh and do you have big classes? Natalie: Yes, so I teach English, that means I teach the whole year, so I have really big classes. We have about 200 students at the school. Todd: That’s a lot. Natalie: Yes it is. Todd: What about the evening? What do you do in the evening? Natalie: When I get home I’m usually really tired, so I get changed into my pajamas and I watch TV for about two hours. After that, I’ll maybe have some dinner, maybe get a pizza and then read a book or play on my phone again. Todd: What do you watch on TV? Natalie: I really like watching Korean drama. Todd: Korean dramas are cool. Natalie: I know, the characters are so much fun. Todd: Do you listen to K-pop? Natalie: A little bit but I think it’s a little bit boring. I prefer American pop. Todd: Oh so you like Korean dramas and American music? Natalie: That’s right. I also like game shows. Todd: Oh, what game shows? Natalie: Well actually my favorite one is Busted, and that’s also Korean. Todd: Okay, I need to see that. So when do you go to bed? Natalie: Most nights I go to bed at around 10.00 p.m. but at the weekend, sometimes it’s later, maybe around midnight. Todd: Well I think you have an interesting and long day. Natalie: That’s right, I’m usually very tired. #inglesdozero #inglesparainiciantes #pronunciaemingles #inglesfacil #aprenderingles #estudaringles #cursodeingles #auladeingles…

Todd: So, Abidemi, let’s talk about languages. Abidemi: Sure. Todd: You are from Nigeria and Nigeria has many languages, correct? Abidemi: That’s true, yes. Todd: How many languages can you speak? Abidemi: I would say that I can speak one language very well. Todd: Me too. Abidemi: And that would be English. But, I speak other languages fairly well. Yoruba, which is a Nigerian language, French, and a little bit of Japanese as well. Todd: You are Canadian also, and in Canada, students study French, correct? Abidemi: That’s true, yes. Todd: Do you speak French often in Canada? Abidemi: While I was living there I spoke it a lot more, yes. Todd: Do you like French? Abidemi: I love French. I love learning languages. Todd: French, I think, is very hard for some people, myself included, because the pronunciation of some words is very different than the pronunciation of American English. I think it’s funny that there are some words in French that look exactly the same as words in English but we pronounce them completely differently. Abidemi: I have never thought of it like that before, Todd, but you’re right. They look the same but the pronunciations are different. Todd: I think it’s a trick because we see the word, and we know how to say it one way, but we have to say it a different way. Abidemi: That’s true. Todd: We just can’t do that well. Abidemi: That’s true. Todd: So, you can speak Yoruba. Abidemi: Yoruba, yes. Todd: Have you ever taught that language? Abidemi: No, never. I don’t think too many people want to learn it outside of Nigeria. Todd: I think, in the future, more people will want to learn unique languages. Abidemi: I hope you’re right. Todd: Yeah, maybe. Abidemi: Maybe. Todd: What language do you want to learn in the future? Abidemi: I have many that, if I had more time, I would like to learn. I’m interested in Japanese, of course. I live in Japan now, so I would like to speak it better. I would also like to learn Mandarin, Russian, Hausa, another Nigerian language, Spanish, and maybe a couple of others. Todd: Yeah, there’s so many languages I want to learn. I want to learn Spanish too. I can speak some Thai and Japanese because I lived as a teacher in both countries. But, I want to learn a language that has the same alphabet. I can read Thai but not very well. I can read Japanese but not very well. I want to learn a language where it’s easy to read and see what the word is. In Thai, you can’t do that. In Japanese, you can’t do that. Abidemi: I know what you mean. It would make it easier to learn the language. Todd: But in Russian, you can’t do that. Abidemi: That’s true. Todd: It’s completely different. Abidemi: That’s true, but they have alphabets that are the same. You just have to decode them. Todd: A little bit, yeah. We have the phrase, it’s all Greek to me, which means you have no idea. Anyway, thanks a lot, Abidemi. Abidemi: Thank you, Todd. #inglesdozero #inglesparainiciantes #pronunciaemingles…
