難易度★★☆☆☆Reid: hi what's up?
Interviewer: hi how are you?
Reid: I'm fine thank you. and you?
Interviewer: I'm fine thank you.
This is our teacher, Jef Reid. Please introduce yourself.
Reid: well, you already told my name. so I come from Canada.
ah I spent most of my life in Toronto which is a very big multicultural city.
I've lived in Niigata for about 9 years now.
I'm married, and live in Matsuhama.
and I teach in this college for five classes a week.
Interviewer: Thank you.
Reid: You are welcome.
Interviewer: How long have you been in Japan?
Reid: 9 years.
Interviewer: Ok. That's a long time.
Reid: ah sometimes it seems like a long time. Yes.
Interviewer: What's the reason that you came to Japan?
Reid: I met a British couple while I was on Safari in Kenya, and they said that they had been teaching English in Tokyo.
And I decided that I'd like to travel to a country where I could live, I suppose, to many places I had visited only as a tourist.
So the experience of coming to Japan and living like everyone else here does, here's a lot of difference simply coming as a visitor for two or three weeks and then leaving.
Like you, there is completely different perspective on your country and the country that you live in.
Interviewer : What is your life like in Japan?
Reid : What’s my life like.
Well it’s probably a lot like the average Japanese does.
I have a house. I have pets. I get up to go to work.
I walk my dogs. I pay my taxes.
I, you know, try to deal with every day situations as best as I can, except of course there's a language barrier and a cultural barrier.
It’s not very evident simply my looking at people from the outside. Japanese people tend to dress the same way I do.
They tend to do the same things for recreation.
They go to a job, nine to five, Monday to Friday, or maybe they work more on Saturday, but there’s a big difference in a way people think here than there is in my country.
