by Elder Chris McCool, Pastor (preached on October 13, 2024)

As we began to see in the first half of this sermon, there are at least three different types of justification taught in Scripture: justification by grace, justification by works, and justification by faith. Since “justification” is a legal term meaning “not guilty,” we are made to think of “courtrooms” in which different types of justification apply. Justification by grace occurs solely by the sacrifice of Christ, and applies in the courtroom of God’s throne of eternal judgment. Justification by works, on the other hand, occurs in the courtroom of men’s opinions – how else will anyone know that we are indeed children of God, unless we demonstrate that by our works? Finally, justification by faith occurs in the courtroom of our own hearts and minds, and has to do with how we view ourselves and our relationship to God. Join us today as we consider this important doctrine.
