• The paper is called Distributional Impacts of Heterogenous Carbon Prices in the EU and looked at European countries, however, the findings around the discrepancy apply anywhere – why?
• Carbon taxes aren’t uniform across all countries, and aren’t uniformly applied across all industries – and that leaves differentials and gaps that the IMF claims are being exploited by rich people to the exclusion of low income households.

About a month ago, it was reported in the Daily Mail the restaurant chain kicked out all of the regular dining patrons so they could stage actors as a campaign event for Kamals Harris in the Pittsburgh area.

The Harris campaign bussed in the press pool and a group of campaign supporters, essentially actors, to stage a photo shoot meet and greet and manufacture the appearance of support for Kamals Harris.

The August event was presented as “ordinary diners,” but was in fact a group of Harris campaign workers. Essentially this was typical astroturf sold as organic or authentic campaigning; it wasn’t. Everything around Kamala Harris is fake, manufactured and astroturf performance.

A video taken by a diner within Primanti Brothers was posted on Twitter and quickly went viral. Apparently, most of the people inside the establishment immediately cancelled their orders as soon as they realized what was happening,

The barred JD Vance was undeterred and remained outside the building to thank people as they left. The video shows JD Vance telling those who were outraged that he paid for cancelled meals, left a tip and reminded the operator of the restaurant of the “no tax on tips” pledge from the campaign.

Virginia FAA contractor allegedly spied for Iran, shared private info on US airports, energy industry: DOJ

• Abouzar Rahmati is accused of conspiring to work in the US on behalf of Iranian officials between December 2017 and June 2024

• A former Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) contractor was indicted Friday for acting as an illegal agent for the Iranian government, the Department of Justice said.

• According to a DOJ release, from at least December 2017 through June 2024, 42-year-old Abouzar Rahmati allegedly met with Iranian government officials and acted on their behalf.
• Rahmati, a naturalized U.S. citizen and resident of Great Falls, Virginia, previously was an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) 1st Lt., a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces, from June 2009 to May 2010. The IRGC is a designated terrorist group by the U.S. government.
• After being discharged from the IRGC, the indictment alleges that Rahmati lied to the U.S. government regarding his military service with the IRGC in order to gain employment as a U.S. contractor.

• In Aug. 2017, prosecutors allege that Rahmati began communicating with a senior Iranian government official with whom he had previously attended college.

• Following the initial meetings, Rahmati got to work as a spy for the Iranian government. Prosecutors said that he eventually became a contractor for FAA’s National Airspace System (NAS), which allowed him to be privy to sensitive information.

And that determination cannot be made by the court without considering the facts- using evidence produced by the parties. But Smith wants to skip the fair hearing part.
• He wants the judge to rely on the one-sided views and memories of witnesses who testified in secret, without testing any of that testimony by cross examination. Smith wants Judge Chutkan to run a one-sided kangaroo court, not use a process fair to both sides that American courts have used since colonial times.
