95. Reclaiming Body Sovereignty: Empowerment Through Lingerie Fashion with Laura Olvera
Manage episode 452334020 series 3460143
In this episode, I had the privilege of speaking with Laura Olvera who I have the honor to call her a friend. Laura is a Los Angeles native, fashion designer, and small business owner who is transforming the way women of color view themselves through her brand, Señora Calzones. Laura’s passion lies in empowering women to embrace their bodies and sexual empowerment without shame, drawing inspiration from her Mexican heritage, personal journey, and the powerful community of women she surrounds herself with.
Laura shared her personal battles with body image, especially during her postpartum journey. These challenges sparked the creation of Señora Calzones during the reflective period of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time of vulnerability and rediscovery led Laura to realize the importance of self-acceptance and body positivity, inspiring her to launch an intimate clothing line that celebrates women’s bodies in all their diverse forms.
More than just clothing, Laura’s designs make bold statements about body sovereignty and self-love. She spoke about the often-overlooked struggles many women face postpartum, emphasizing the need for compassion, gentleness, and patience during this transformative stage of life.
One of the most inspiring aspects of Laura’s work is her experiential offerings, such as boudoir photo shoots. These aren’t just about creating stunning images—they are empowering experiences that encourage women to reconnect with their sensuality, creativity, erotic energy, and confidence.
Laura’s journey and the mission behind Señora Calzones are powerful reminders of the strength found in vulnerability, community, and self-love. Her work aligns beautifully with the ongoing effort to dismantle diet culture and societal pressures, paving the way for a future that celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and collective healing.
I encourage you to explore Laura’s work, follow her on Instagram at @senoracalzones, and take a step further on your own journey of self-discovery and radical acceptance.
