THE TRUE CRIME CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: On March 19, 1960, Sharon Kinne, a young housewife from Independence, Missouri, reported that her husband, James Kinne, had been accidentally shot by their toddler. The police ruled the death an accident, but suspicions around Sharon began to mount. Soon after, she began an affair with a car salesman named Walter Jones, whose wife Patricia later went missing. Sharon was the last person to see Patricia alive, and Patricia’s body was eventually found, riddled with bullets, in a remote area. Sharon was arrested and charged with Patricia’s murder, as well as the murder of her husband, James. However, her trials were fraught with complications. She was acquitted of Patricia’s murder due to a lack of evidence, and her conviction for James’s murder was overturned on a technicality, leading to multiple retrials that ended in mistrials and hung juries. Before her fourth trial for James’s murder could take place, Sharon fled to Mexico with a boyfriend. There, she killed an American tourist, Francisco Parades Ordoñez, under suspicious circumstances, claiming self-defense. She was convicted of homicide in Mexico and earned the nickname "La Pistolera" during her time in prison. In December 1969, Sharon Kinne escaped from the Mexican prison, and despite a brief search by authorities, she was never found. Her whereabouts remain unknown, and her warrant for the murder of James Kinne is still active, making it one of the longest outstanding felony warrants in U.S. history. Sharon Kinne's dramatic life and unsolved disappearance have made her a notorious figure, with many believing she is still alive somewhere, continuing to evade justice.
