Abortion: what does a just law look like in post-Roe America?
Manage episode 345407347 series 2811977
Abortion is an enormously complicated issue. There are so many factors to consider, from the morality of the act itself, to the lives and wellbeing of the unborn child and of the mother. Abortion laws and policies are now taking shape across various states. Much of the media’s attention and public debate has focused on a relatively small number of medical complications during pregnancy, and exceptions to abortion bans. So, what does a just and moral abortion law–one that protects both the unborn child and the mother–look like?
In this final episode of season two of Voting Catholic, Sebastian Gomes speaks with three guests about what's at stake in the 2022 midterms regarding abortion:
- Marcia Lane-McGee is a podcaster and vice president of New Wave Feminists.
- Jacqui Oesterblad is a recent graduate of Yale Law School, who wrote an article for America titled, We need to talk about ‘life of the mother’ exceptions in abortion law.
- Richard Doerflinger worked for 36 years at the Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities at the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He is a fellow with the De Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame, and an adjunct fellow in Bioethics and Public Policy with the National Catholic Bioethics Center. He wrote an article for America titled, The U.S. bishops aren’t the extremists in the abortion debate.
