In the rainforest of the Yucatan Peninsula in southeastern Mexico, a huge piece of infrastructure is close to completion. The first phase of the Maya Train began operating last December. But very soon, it will run a thousand mile loop, cutting through the jungle, and connecting the popular Cancun International Airport with ancient Maya sites, colonial towns and resorts. But questions persist around whether the railway’s economic promises can ever outweigh its social and environmental impacts. The World's Tibisay Zea reports from the Yucatan Peninsula.
