On this episode, Alexandra interviews Gabrielle Horton, founder of The Woodshaw, a company where she provides production services to podcast creators, and the executive producer to an upcoming podcast series at Headspace set to launch in Spring 2021. She is also the co-creator, executive producer, and host of NATAL, a podcast docuseries about having a baby while Black--a major topic on this particular episode. Gabrielle walks Alexandra through the exact inception point of the idea for NATAL, along with the viral Tweet that spurred it on.
In the first half of the episode, Gabrielle shares about her experience as a political staffer and campaign worker for notable figures such as John Lewis and President Obama, and how this work ultimately equipped her to effectively tell stories through podcasting. They discuss racist and sexist workplace culture in which Gabrielle emphasizes the so obvious need for representation in media spaces for Black and brown folks, and other people of color. She also touches on her experience as an entrepreneur and provides tips and encouragement to anyone just entering that space, as well as the podcast industry in general.
Please note: this interview was recorded in July 2020.
