On the fourth episode of a special THE OSCARS SERIES for The Outlaw Nation, host and Tomatometer critic John Rocha welcomes director, editor and his The Cine-Files cohost Steve Morris to revisit and review DRIVE MY CAR. The film from director Ryusuke Hamaguchi stars Hidetoshi Nishijima, Tōko Miura, Masaki Okada and Reika Kirishima.
The film follows Yūsuke Kafuku (played by Hidetoshi Nishijima) as he directs a multilingual production of Uncle Vanya in Hiroshima and grapples with the death of his wife, Oto.
John and Steve discuss what they loved and didn't love about the film as they discuss the performances, direction, score, sound design and cinematography. They also discuss its Best Picture Oscars chances and where it has a best chance to take home a statue from the three other categories it is nominated in.
