Manage episode 296283130 series 2798464
In a week that saw #BlackAF creator Kenya Barris back out of his development deal with Netflix because they weren't edgy & becoming "CBS", the streamer drops a more crass, yet self-effacing animated feature, AMERICA: THE MOTION PICTURE, which features a chainsaw-wielding George Washington assembling a team of early U.S. historical figures to take on Benedict Arnold & the British Army under King James.
In the first part of this review, we look at what this type of film means through the prism of the Kenya Barris' comments & journalist Josh Shepherd's opinion piece on What's On Netflix about the potential damage a film like this could do to Netflix's evolving image as a more safe & family-friendly platform (1:00). Then, we dive into our review of the film including: our love for Lord & Miller and Matt Thompson, movie-stealer Jason Mantzoukas, non-stop pop culture references, & much more (9:16)!
