Episode 14 of the Israel Defense and Diplomacy Forum (IDDF) – with Prof. Chuck Freilich, former Israeli Deputy National Security Advisor, and usually, Danny Ayalon, former Deputy Foreign Minister and Ambassador to Washington.

But in this episode, Benjamin Anthony, co-chair of the Miryam Institute, sits in for Danny, who lost his voice to a cold and we wish him a speedy recovery.
Chuck and Benjamin focus on the election fallout in the US and Israel, particularly their impact on the US-Israeli relationship and Israel’s national security.
Chuck fears Israel’s legal and democratic systems may be stressed to breaking point by the new ultra-right coalition and that the two-state solution may now be effectively dead, with extreme ramifications for Israel’s future character as a state and the US-Israeli relationship.
Benjamin shares some of his misgivings regarding the new coalition, but believes that Prime Minister Netanyahu will govern responsibly and effectively. He also believes that there are better alternatives to the two-state solution and welcomes its demise.
On Iran, Chuck and Benjamin agree that the 2015 JCPOA nuclear deal probably can’t be revived, possibly resulting in a heightened need for military action.
But for the first time since the Iranian revolution in 1979, the street demonstrations in Iran may now hold out hope for regime change.
Both Chuck and Benjamin are deeply worried by the rise of antisemitism in the US.

Benjamin concludes the podcast by telling the heart-wrenching story of how his brother, Jonathan, was beaten mercilessly by an antisemitic gang.
He invites listeners to participate, in person or by Zoom, in a special event on anti-Semitism hosted by the Miryam Institute in New York, on December 7th at 530. NY Times columnist, Brett Stephens, former Israeli ambassador to Washington, Michael Oren, former US special envoy for anti-Semitism and Benjamin will be the discussants.
