In this episode, I delve deep into the complexities surrounding antisocial behaviour (ASB) within the housing sector, exploring the nuances of eviction, support, and community responsibility. I’m joined once again by Jacqueline Parkes to unpack the gaps in ASB laws and how housing associations navigate the delicate balance between eviction and support. We tackle several key questions: Do housing associations have the right systems in place to effectively evict tenants for antisocial behaviour? What happens when the root causes of ASB stem from mental health issues or substance dependencies? Are these tenants in need of support, rather than punitive measures? How should housing associations respond when the behaviour is being perpetrated by tenants’ children? Is it fair to penalise parents who are unable to control their kids? Are housing associations doing enough to safeguard the well-being of all tenants and ensure peaceful communities? With many housing associations shifting to nationwide operations, have they lost their local touch and ability to nurture thriving, supportive communities? This episode emphasises the need for a more community-centred approach to housing, with a focus on mediation, support services, and proactive engagement to rebuild and strengthen communities. Join me as I question the current housing policies and seek solutions that place the well-being of tenants and communities at the heart of housing practices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O56l1ggLmX4 #HousingSector #ASB #AntisocialBehaviour #HousingPolicy #CommunitySupport #HousingAssociations #TenantRights #Eviction #MentalHealthSupport #SubstanceDependence #CommunityEngagement #SupportNotPunishment #HousingSolutions #InclusiveHousing #SocialHousing #HousingReform #TenantWellbeing #HousingChallenges #CommunityFocus #HousingJustice…

In Episode 13 of This is the GSA Way, titled Moist Fire Alarms, I delve into the ongoing fire safety issues at Maureen Christian House and expose GreenSquareAccord's inadequate response to a long-standing and potentially life-threatening problem. The fire alarm system, which has been faulty since at least 2016, remains unreliable and even held together with tape. Despite repeated concerns raised by residents and a job being marked as "highest priority," the issue continues to drag on with no clear resolution. The situation has deteriorated to the point where moisture damage in the underground car park is causing further faults, leaving residents feeling unsafe and unsupported. This episode highlights why GreenSquareAccord must step up its game, prioritize fire safety, and provide timely, transparent updates to residents. I also discuss why external oversight and keeping these issues visible online are critical to holding housing providers accountable. It’s time to demand action. Fire safety is non-negotiable, and the wellbeing of residents should never take a backseat. Tune in, share, and help raise awareness of the systemic failings that need addressing—before it’s too late. #FireSafety #GreenSquareAccord #HousingCrisis #ResidentSafety #Accountability #SocialHousing #FireAlarmIssues #BuildingSafety #HousingJustice #TenantRights #PropertyManagement #MoistureDamage #GSAWay #PodcastEpisode #HoldingThemAccountable #PublicAwareness #SafetyMatters #OnlineAdvocacy #CommunitySupport…

In this episode, I take a hard look at the surprising decisions coming out of the National Housing Federation (NHF). Despite her track record of significant failures, Ruth Cooke continues to sit on the NHF board—raising serious concerns about leadership accountability in the housing sector. Even more puzzling, Steve Hayes, GreenSquareAccord’s Director of Corporate Affairs and Communications, has been invited to speak at the NHF’s brand-new Comms and Influencing in Housing Conference on January 21. Positioned as an expert, he’ll contribute to a session titled “The role of comms as business advisors and strategic partners.” But what exactly has he achieved to earn this platform? This event, aimed at helping housing associations communicate effectively, influence decisions, and build relationships with residents, only deepens the irony when you consider GreenSquareAccord’s own troubled history with tenant relations. Is filthy lucre—the lure of resident money—the glue that binds it all together? Join me as I explore the truth behind the headlines and question how these decisions reflect on the NHF’s credibility. #HousingCrisis #SocialHousing #NationalHousingFederation #Accountability #HousingAssociations #GreenSquareAccord #TenantRights #RuthCooke #SteveHayes #NHFConference #HousingSector #CommsAndInfluencing #ResidentMoney #TenantAdvocacy #AffordableHousing #TransparencyMatters #HousingInequality #UKHousing #CorporateResponsibility #LeadershipAccountability #SocialJustice…

In this episode of the Housing Sector Podcast, I sit down with Suz from SHAC (Social Housing Action Campaign) to discuss the ongoing service charge crisis. Residents across the country are facing ever-increasing service charges, often while enduring poor repairs and significant delays in maintenance. These mounting issues could push many residents to consider a service charge strike, a move that carries serious consequences. From the potential criminalisation of residents to housing associations pursuing legal action and even eviction, the stakes are high. Suz and I dive deep into the challenges faced by tenants and shared owners, offering guidance and insights for those affected by these rising costs. We explore what residents can do, how to navigate this difficult situation, and why the housing sector needs urgent reform to protect vulnerable tenants. Don't miss this important conversation about the future of service charges and what it means for residents and housing associations alike. Advice and support are available for those impacted by service charge issues. In this episode, we explore the increasingly common use of surveys within the housing sector with Sarah Wilson, a leading expert in social housing. While surveys are often relied upon as a tool for collecting feedback, we question whether housing associations are truly using the information gathered or simply ticking a box. Are these surveys being acted upon, or are they just a formality with little impact on the services that residents receive? We also dive into the issue of survey engagement, asking whether residents only respond when they are either extremely pleased or extremely angry. This narrow range of feedback means housing providers may be missing out on valuable data from the middle ground—those residents who are neither overly satisfied nor deeply dissatisfied. In this conversation, we discuss strategies that can help engage residents at all levels, ensuring that the surveys provide a fuller picture and lead to real improvements in housing services. Sarah offers insights from her work with Social Housing UK, highlighting ways to better engage residents in meaningful, actionable ways. Whether you're a housing provider or a resident, this episode offers valuable lessons on making survey data work harder and ensuring it leads to tangible results. #HousingSector #SurveysInHousing #CustomerEngagement #SocialHousing #HousingProviders #ResidentFeedback #DataCollection #SurveyFatigue #HousingImprovement #FeedbackMatters #ActionableData #TenantEngagement #HousingPolicy #HousingInnovation #SurveyDesign #ResidentParticipation #HousingChallenges #DataDrivenDecisions #MeaningfulEngagement #SurveyOverload #HousingSectorReform #AffordableHousing #HousingServices #ResidentsVoice #SocialHousingUK #ResidentSatisfaction #TenantFeedback #HousingStrategy #CustomerExperience #SurveysInSocialHousing #HousingTrends #EngagementTools #MiddleGroundData #ResidentEngagement…

In this week’s Housing Sector Podcast, Episode #20, we explore the deeply impactful issue of hoarding, a challenge that not only affects residents but also comes with significant long-term costs for housing associations. Our guest, Violet Barling, is a qualified counsellor and transformative coach who has dedicated her career to helping individuals overcome hoarding behaviors through her specialized program, Hoard Halt. Hoarding, if left unaddressed, can lead to serious health and safety concerns, damage to property, and a lack of effective use of living space. For housing associations, these challenges translate into costly maintenance, repairs, and legal issues, not to mention the emotional and physical toll on the residents themselves. Violet’s work goes beyond the surface, tackling the psychological barriers that often fuel hoarding behaviors and providing residents with the tools and support they need to reclaim their lives. Her Hoard Halt program offers a structured, compassionate approach to helping individuals make lasting changes, improving their living conditions and overall well-being. This episode highlights the importance of addressing hoarding early, both for the welfare of the residents and the long-term stability of housing providers. Violet’s approach is rooted in empathy and practical solutions, ensuring that people suffering from hoarding feel supported and understood as they work through their challenges. Tune in for a conversation that sheds light on a complex issue that affects many but is often overlooked in housing discussions. Violet’s insights into hoarding and her transformative coaching can help housing associations and residents better understand how to tackle this issue effectively, leading to healthier homes and more sustainable solutions. #Hoarding #Decluttering #PersonalGrowth #MentalHealth #HousingSector #HousingAssociations #LongTermCosts #TransformativeCoaching #Support #HoardHalt…

In this episode of the Housing Sector Podcast , we sit down with Suz Muna from SHAC (Social Housing Action Campaign) to explore critical issues impacting tenants and residents across the housing sector. We discuss the growing divide between smaller providers, who are more focused on maintaining the quality of their homes, and larger providers, who seem overly fixated on building new developments at the expense of maintaining existing properties. We also tackle the troubling trend of empty, fit-for-purpose homes being left unused, the long lead times for planning, and the increasing un-affordability of so-called “affordable housing.” With social rents rising in line with inflation plus 1%, we question whether housing remains accessible for those who need it most. Suz shares insights into building a united power-base for tenants and residents, addressing the imbalance of power that often leaves residents without effective support. Together, we emphasise the importance of continuing to unite and fight for a fairer housing system—because we’re all in this together. #HousingSectorPodcast #SuzMuna #SHAC #SocialHousing #AffordableHousing #TenantRights #ResidentSupport #HousingCrisis #EmptyHomes #PlanningDelays #SocialRents #PowerToTenants #UniteAndFight #FairHousing…
