What if we’ve been seeing it all wrong?

Is it possible we’ve been looking at life through the wrong lens? Ephesians 4 challenges us to rethink life in light of our newness in Christ. Paul contrasts the futility of the old life with the vibrant reality of our new identity.

Forget trying to earn God’s favor through forgiveness or good deeds. Instead, recognize that our actions flow naturally from who we are in Christ. Paul’s focus isn’t on condemning sin but on encouraging a life that reflects our true nature and living in harmony with our new self.

Ready to see life through the lens of grace and experience the freedom it brings? Watch now and explore how this fresh perspective can transform your journey!

Discussion Questions for Ephesians 4:
  1. Read verses 17-19. What key words describe the unbeliever? How is the born-again believer different in each case?
  2. Read verses 20-24. Why is it important to see these verses as a “chunk” and interpret their meaning very carefully? What do you then conclude about laying aside and putting on?
  3. Read verses 24-25. What are the two reasons not to lie to one another? How does identity relate to behavior here?
  4. Read verses 26-27. Is anger a sin? Why or why not? What kind of “opportunity” is given to the enemy when we don’t forgive?
  5. Read verse 28. Notice Paul’s concern when someone has been sinning. What is his instruction focused on? What is it *not* focused on? (Hint: Consider the horizontal and vertical analogy in the message.)
  6. Read verses 29-31. How does reading these three verses together help us better understand the true meaning of “do not grieve the Holy Spirit”?
  7. Read verse 32. How is this different from trying to earn God’s forgiveness by forgiving others first? Compare verse 32 with Matthew 6:14-15. Why are these two passages so different from each other?
