There is a decentralized revolution occurring in health care, and now the concept of voluntary health sharing has emerged as a new avenue that freedom-minded expats can use to protect themselves and their families in the event of unexpected injury or illness. That's what today's guest, Andy Schoonover, joins me to discuss. Andy is the CEO and founder of CrowdHealth. The company uses a voluntary crowdfunding model to pay its users' medical bills and can even help them when they are overseas.

TODAY’S CONVERSATION WITH ANDY SCHOONOVER

  • Listen in to hear how Andy’s personal experience with the U.S. healthcare system led him to create CrowdFund as a solution to the outrageous prices and lack of transparency.
  • You will be shocked to learn about the medical procedure for Andy’s daughter that a U.S. insurance company deemed “unnecessary.”
  • Discover why the doctor-patient relationship in the U.S. has been replaced by the doctor-insurance company relationship, leaving the patient by the wayside.
  • Learn just why healthcare is so much more expensive in the U.S. than just about anywhere else on Earth.
  • Why are Americans so obese in comparison to the rest of the world? Andy digs into the root causes of such poor health trends in the U.S., even while having some of the best doctors in the world.
  • Uncover why Western medicine often misses the mark by focusing solely on treating symptoms while often neglecting the underlying health issues that cause them.
  • Hear Andy and me explain why a strong community—like the one we have built here at Expat Money—is essential to a functioning healthcare system.
  • Discover how the CrowdHealth model of voluntary health sharing was inspired by how similar communities, such as those in Kenya as well as the Amish.
  • What type of people typically join the Crowd Health community? You won’t be surprised to hear a lot of similar qualities
  • Lastly, find out how Crowd Health can help expats when they experience unexpected medical issues while overseas.

CONCLUSION

It was great speaking to someone like Andy, who truly understands, from firsthand experience, the problems with the health insurance model and how decentralization and voluntary action provide the solution. Having a backup plan for catastrophic health issues that might crop up is a crucial part of any Plan-B, so I hope this conversation inspires others to seek solutions like the one presented today.
