Can A Cow Complete The Comrades?
Manage episode 333080131 series 3334144
Our the third episode of Daddious I get a chance to talk to Richard Laskey who is the sales director of Modern Athlete, founder of DAD, Dad Assisting Dads, and possibly the most important thing, a dad to three girls. Richard is an accomplished athlete taking on some of the most gruelling events in South Africa... dressed as a cow.
Over the course of more than a decade, both Richard and his team are set to have raised over R50 Million whilst doing in the most aspiring and entertaining ways possible.
Richard is no stranger to challenges but these extend well beyond the realms of competition and sport with the sudden loss of his wife due to a rare form of cancer being his hardest hill to climb. He shares with us the shifts in roles, identities and challenges with becoming the sole parent to three young children and his own journey to rock bottom where he was literally fighting for his life. This candid and brave discussion is something which solidifies, even more, the reason why spaces like Daddious not only should but must exist. We get a chance to learn and explore ever more deeply the nature of fatherhood and the human journey.
I would like to thank Richard for this brave and open discussion where we honestly laughed way more than we wanted to cry. It has been an honour to see the incredible work he is doing which is why if you want to find out more about his work both in the fundraising or in his own organisation, DAD, a space where fathers who have lost a partner can connect, then feel free to have a look at Richard's socials below:
