Manage episode 312890183 series 3225003
Family, food, and heritage, three words that for this episode's guest Joaquin Meza are deeply interconnected. Joaquin is the owner of Dolores, a family run restaurant that focuses on Mexican cuisine, specifically from the Mixteca region of Puebla and Oaxaca. While Joaquin is the owner, the real star of the show is his mother, Chef Maria Meza who some consider the Queen of Mexican cuisine in Rhode Island. Joaquin never planned to be in the restaurant business, in fact his first restaurant El Rancho Grande wasn't his dream, it was his Mothers. Over time Joaquin didn't just survive in the restaurant business, he thrived, creating one of the best tequila and mezcal bar programs in the state. While El Rancho brought Joaquin and his family success and made them a pillar in their community, a chance encounter during a trip to Mexico had Joaquin wondering what type of story was El Rancho telling, and set him on a path to tell his story, about his Mexico, through food.
