A small group of biblical Christians known as the the Pilgrims are widely considered to be “the founders of America”.

Numbering only about 400-500 souls, they had fled religious persecution in England to settle in Holland. But after ten years there, they decided on another move across the Atlantic Ocean to an unknown land that would become the United States.

About 50 Pilgrims were on the first vessel called The Mayflower, arriving in modern-day Cape Cod in Massachusetts in November 1620. One year later in November 1621, after a brutal winter in which many of them died, they celebrated a bountiful harvest with local Indians who had helped them in what has become known as the first Thanksgiving.

The Pilgrims and their biblical beliefs which led directly to the principles of the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution 150 years have been mostly forgotten by the majority of our population. “Separation of church and state” is a sacrament of mainstream society today…but it wasn’t to the Pilgrims. They said they came to America “for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith.”

Dr. Jerry Newcombe, producer of the documentary film, The Pilgrims, joins us this Thanksgiving weekend on The Christian Worldview to discuss the Pilgrims’ story and what they believed and lived by. For in them we have an example for how we can live in our pilgrimage in a contrary world.

God began the church 50 days after the Passover on which Jesus was crucified, by sending His Holy Spirit to indwell and empower believers to do God’s will. Ever since, despite relentless attempts to destroy or corrupt it, the church has unstoppably marched on as a witness to the saving and sanctifying power of God through His Son, His Spirit and His Word. There is no category for a Christian to not be part of a local church. The example of first century believers was that their lives were centered around the church, as they gathered each week to worship God, fellowship with one another, pray, remember the Lord’s death and resurrection, and hear the preaching of God’s Word. In short, the church is a top priority for God and needs to be for believers as well. Send us a text GUEST: NATASHA CRAIN , author, When Culture Hates You In speaking to His disciples, Jesus used strong language to describe the reaction the unbelieving world would have to His followers: “If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you” ( John 15:19 ). Not dislikes you or misunderstands you or is confused by you but “hates you”. Why does the world hate believers? Jesus answers that question: “ For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light lest his deeds be exposed ” ( John 3:20 ). In other words, the Light of Christ is in every true believer and a sanctified life convicts unbelievers of their sin and their alienation from God. Even though the political winds have changed recently in this country, the spiritual winds will always be in the face of Christians. So how can believers obey their call to be salt and light—a preservative to what honors God and a light to the way of salvation? How do we avoid passivity (i.e. removing ourselves from engagement in society) but rather faithfully be an ambassador for Christ? Just consider the horrific wildfires causing destruction and death in Los Angeles and remember to pray for those impacted. The bottom line: Life is uncertain but storms are certain. Jesus concluded His most well-known sermon, the Sermon on the Mount, this way: “ Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. Send us a text GUEST: STEVE MILLER, author, One Day Nearer I recently watched a program on Fox News Channel that featured some of the sharpest conservative minds, including Thomas Sowell, Victor Davis Hanson, and Mark Levin. They were discussing the crumbling state of affairs in America and abroad with regard to overwhelming illegal immigration across our border, a takeover of the government school system by a Marxist worldview, crushing economic policies and inflation, political corruption, widespread anti-Israel sentiment, and several more. They detailed the problems accurately but I was left wondering what these intelligent men believe is going to happen in the future. Do they think with a different president that we’ll pull out of this death spiral? Do they think that America is too big to fail and that the pendulum will swing back the conservative way at some point? Do they know and believe what God has prophesied in the Bible about the end times? Only the born again Christian who is indwelled by the Holy Spirit and accurately interprets Scripture is able to understand what is coming. While God has chosen to not reveal every detail and precise timing of the future, He has put enough in Scripture that we should know what’s coming, most especially, the return of Jesus Christ to defeat His enemies and reign. With each passing sunset, we are “one day nearer” to the return of Christ. And that is the best news! Why would the believer want to struggle on in this world—with sin, conflict, persecution, disease, and death—when we can live for eternity in perfection in the presence of Christ? In the left column are resources and ideas for you to use personally with your own families. The Christian Worldview wishes all of you a memorable and meaningful Christmas. To God be all Glory! Christmas is upon us. While it’s easy to get distracted by all that competes for our attention—current events and politics, work and school, sports and recreation, travel and material things, even family and church—there is really only one most important issue and that is the person of Jesus Christ and what He has done for mankind. Jesus said, “ He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him ” ( John 3:36 ). That couldn’t be more clear. Where you spend eternity hinges on whether you place your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Christmas is the time when Christians remember and celebrate God sending His Son into our world, born of a virgin woman, mighty and holy in word and deed, and loving and sacrificial in offering His perfect life to satisfy God’s wrath and justice for our sins. Today will be a program to think about not Christmas generally, but the Christ of Christmas specifically. We will read God’s word, listen to some music, even do a Christmas quiz, all to appreciate and worship the God/Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. The first is a recent case before the United States Supreme Court as to whether the state of Tennessee is within Constitutional rights to ban what is euphemistically referred to as “gender affirming care” for children. That “health care” includes administering powerful drugs and hormones to minors that alter sexual development and irreversible surgeries to remove reproductive body parts. Life Is In The Blood… And Explaining the Gospel to Children 53:58

Send us a text Blood is a recurring theme in Scripture. In Genesis 4, God confronted Cain after he had murdered his brother Abel, saying: The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground ( Gen. 4:10 ). The sacrificial system God established for the Jews to temporarily cover their sin involved countless animals being slaughtered and their blood applied to the altar and mercy seat. Ephesians 1:7 says, In Him we have redemption through His blood, the fogginess of our trespasses. Even in a physical sense the Bible says, For the life of the flesh is in the blood ( Leviticus 17:11 ). Clearly, God created and designed blood to be highly important physically and spiritually. This weekend on The Christian Worldview , we will discuss my recent problem with blood flow in my heart. You will know them by their fruits .” ( Matthew 7:15-16 ). False teachers don’t wear red suits and carry pitchforks. That would be too obvious. Far more effective for undermining the church, diverting believers, and hiding the gospel from unbelievers is for false teachers to hold respected positions at churches and Christian organizations and to be captivating speakers and writers. What’s really effective is when they gain popularity while appearing to hold orthodox positions only to shift over time away from orthodoxy, leading their followers away. False teachers are nothing new. The Old Testament recounts the false prophets who led Israel into compromise and sin. The New Testament describes the constant battles of Christ and the apostles to “ Retain the standard of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you .” ( 2 Tim. 1:13 ). From the very beginning, Satan relentlessly attacks the truth of God’s Word and he uses men and women to do it. Men and women who likely would never consider themselves to be false teachers but are nonetheless. “ You will know them by their fruits ”, meaning misinterpreting Scripture and practicing sin. Lawson has been removed indefinitely from all ministry activities at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas. Several days ago, the elders at Trinity Bible Church of Dallas were informed by Steve Lawson of an inappropriate relationship that he has had with a woman.” The shocks of this earthquake were immediately felt throughout the Evangelical Christian world. How could the 73-year-old popular and influential theologically conservative pastor/preacher who had been in ministry for nearly 50 years, who preached at the biggest conferences around the world, who was “a preacher to aspiring preachers”, who had written dozens of books on Christian doctrine, history, and practice, fall into this kind of disqualifying sin? But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability .” Well, that’s certainly descriptive of our nation. God’s judgment on these rebels is the wrath of abandonment, where God “ gives them over ” to plunge deeper into sin. It’s more important than who will be our next president, more important than world peace, more important than your health, financial security, and whatever else we treasure. Scripture makes the primacy of worship clear: King David prayed, “ Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, indeed everything that is in the heavens and the earth; Yours is the dominion, O Lord, and You exalt Yourself as head over all ” ( 1 Chronicles 29:11 ). Paul wrote, “ Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God ” ( 1 Cor 10:31 ). King Solomon exhorted, “ The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear [reverence, awe] God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person ” ( Ecclesiastes 12:13 ) Psalms, the songbook of the Bible, closes this way: “ Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord! ” ( Psalm 150:6 ) God created man as a worshipful being. We can see this because everyone worships someone or something. If God isn’t worshipped, a false god will be substituted—person, pleasure, possession, position, popularity, power, to name just a few. God, as Creator, Sustainer, Savior, and Sovereign over all, deserves our worship. Our peace, purpose, and pleasure in life is directly proportional to how rightly and authentically we worship the Creator. Send us a text GUEST: JEFF KLIEWER , pastor and author, Woke-Free Church Paul wrote to the Colossians, “ See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ ” ( Colossians 2:8 ). It would be hard to overstate just how pervasive and destructive social justice ideology has become in our society and the church. Whether termed social justice, wokeness, colonization, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), or Critical Theory, it has metastasized everywhere—government, education, media, military, even in Christian institutions and the church. It’s based on the Marxist worldview that “oppressors” (such as white, Christian, heterosexual men) have “rigged the system” to oppress and victimize non-whites, non-Christians, women, immigrants, “indigenous peoples”, homosexuals, transgenders, and Palestinians. This is a politically and theologically left-wing ideology whose ultimate aim is to crumble Western Civilization and the Biblical principles upon which it’s based in order to transform the country and the world into what they believe will be a united, socialist utopia where they do not “acknowledge God any longer” ( Romans 1:28 ). But instead of unity, it foments division, entitlement, and the sin of partiality. But even worse for Christians and the church, social justice prioritizes the pursuit of social issues above the Great Commission and sidetracks many Christians and churches. Our guest this weekend, pastor Jeff Kliewer , knows all too well about social justice, the term Christians are particularly susceptible to because “God is a God of justice and so pursuing social justice is a Biblical and gospel issue.” Jeff lived and ministered for over a decade in the inner city of Philadelphia and came to the conclusion that social justice policies were not only misguided but actually cause and exacerbate problems rather than provide solutions. Jeff has written a strong and insightful book titled, Woke-Free Church: For the Deliverance of the Body of Christ from Social Justice Captivity that exposes just how insidious woke ideology is. The book struck such a nerve in his own denomination, the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), that they removed his ordination. Journalist Megan Basham recently joined us to describe the Left’s infiltration into Evangelicalism in light of her bestselling book, Shepherds for Sale: How Evangelical Leaders Traded the Truth for a Leftist Agenda .
