Transgender and gender diverse surgeons face a myriad of challenges in the workforce due to social, structural, and institutional gender-binary paradigms. An opportunity exists for medical schools, surgical residency programs, fellowships, state organizations, and others, to recruit, sponsor, advocate, and retain transgender and gender diverse persons in surgery.
