Finding Harmony Through Grit. In this episode I speak with Sonia Howell of South Bend, Indiana about her pursuit of genuine self through travel, resilience, grit, and humility. Sonia, who is originally from Drogheda, Ireland is fittingly a Senior Producer at Notre Dame Learning. We first met in a professional capacity while working on an online educational project, which was centered around the people of Puerto Rico and the impact that 2017’s Hurricane Maria had on the island. Both working with Sonia and by getting to know her personally, I’m truly better off as a human and I’m impressed with not only her ability to connect with those around her, but to harness those connections into meaningful impact.

In this conversation, we talk about the value of education and taking a chance on investing in yourself and your future. She describes the profound ways in which education has transformed and continues to transform her life today. We talk about mentorship, and the role that it plays in helping each of us chart our heroes' journey. We talk about how her travel’s have helped shape who she is today, touching on her experiences competing internationally in karate and her shift into marathon and distance running and the ways in which these athletic endeavors have both helped and hurt her on her journey.

We also talk about how the pandemic has forced people, organizations, countries, well just about everyone, to look deep within. When things fall apart, we have hidden opportunities to build things back in a way that far surpasses where they were before. There is a lot of great insight in this one, and I’m excited to share it with you.
