Rafael Nadal said on Friday that his foot injury last year was so severe that he felt he’d never play tennis again.
At the Australian Open, the Spanish great is chasing a men’s record 21st Grand Slam, having advanced to the fourth round with a four-set triumph over Russian 28th seed Karen Khachanov.
The 35-year-old Spaniard revealed the seriousness of the foot ailment that terminated his year on the tour in August after winning 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 in a late-night match on Rod Laver Arena.
