AM Edition for July 17

Today’s devotional addresses the common desire to know one's election before coming to Christ, which is a misunderstanding. The true way to ascertain our election is by looking to Jesus. If you feel yourself to be a lost and guilty sinner, go directly to the cross of Christ. Tell Him of your guilt and remind Him of His promises, such as "Him that comes to Me, I will in no wise cast out" and "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." By looking to Jesus and believing in Him, you will find proof of your election, for as surely as you believe, you are elect. Surrender yourself completely to Christ and trust in Him, and you will know you are one of God's chosen.

Key Points:

  1. Look to Jesus: The assurance of our election is found by looking to Jesus and believing in Him.
  2. Come as You Are: Do not seek to know your election before coming to Christ. Instead, come to Him with all your guilt and seek refuge in His wounds.
  3. Assurance through Faith: By trusting in Christ, you will receive the assurance of the Holy Spirit, confirming your election.
  4. Christ's Eternal Love: Jesus, who was present at the everlasting council, assures you of His eternal love and choice when you choose Him.
